About the Rat Race Slave

Like a lot of people, I am a rat race slave.

After graduating from college, I started working as a software developer at a software solutions company.  Like any other fresh graduate trained to be a rat race slave, I was eager to work at a corporate environment.  I worked at least 11 hours each day to get each task done with all my best.  The long work hours and demanding work evironment isn’t that bad because I got promoted a couple of times.  But, as you all know, promotion comes with higher expectations and more work.  I didn’t mind this for a long time because I like being busy.

As years went by, the whole picture of the rat race became clearer and clearer to me.  It appears your future largely relies on other people’s decision.  I hated that idea.  Other people will determine if you will be promoted or if you will have a salary raise.  Other people will decide when you will work and when you can take a break.  I even know a manager whose instant reaction was to look at the calendar and check for deadlines when an employee informed the manager about his wedding date.  A lot of things are not in your control and it is very annoying for me.

I started asking myself why I needed to work so hard.  I dreaded waking up early each day just to get stuck in morning traffic.  I am tired of working unpaid extra hours just to make someone happy.  I have no life for a very long time and I don’t want to be like the highly paid rat race slaves in the office who barely see and play with their kids.

My perception about work has changed.  I knew there must be a better way.  I do not want to submit my resume to a company again.  I want to work to make myself happy.  I want to work when I want to and as long or as brief as I want to.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t become lazy all of a sudden.  I actually hate slackers.  I just think it is time to work extra smart than working hard.

This is where the Internet comes to the picture.  I know that it is highly possible to have a source or sources of income in the Internet.  I just don’t know how yet.  I know there will be bumps and turns in my journey towards to financial freedom.  I will be recording my successes and learning experiences in this blog.

After a year, I am targetting to have multiple streams of income enough to allow me leave my job and live the life I’ved dreamed of.  I know I will get there.  Join me in my journey and wish me luck!
